New Legislative Council Head Got Money From Leininger PAC
By Vince Leibowitz on Feb 9, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
It seems as though Democrats in the Lege may not be the only ones with a potential bone to pick over the appointment earlier this year of partisan hack Milton Rister as director of the Texas Legislative Council. Via AAS:
Leininger, a San Antonio businessman, gave the political action committee $500,000 and pledged $250,000 more. The committee’s consultant, Milton Rister, who will be researching the incumbents, just began last week as nonpartisan executive director of the Texas Legislative Council.
Rister said he finished work for the committee the first week of January.
“I quit at the point when I was under serious consideration for the job,” Rister said. “I’m not doing anything political any longer.”
The committee paid Rister a total of $22,000, including $7,500 on Jan. 10.
A panel of legislators, led by Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Tom Craddick, hired Rister last month to head the council.
The political action committee made in-kind contributions of advertising and mailings to primary opponents of Reps. Roy Blake, R-Nacogdoches; Carter Casteel, R-New Braunfels; Charlie Geren, R-Fort Worth; Delwin Jones, R-Lubbock; and Tommy Merritt, R-Longview.
Yep. I’m sure those guys are kicking their own asses that they didn’t raise a little stink about this like Senfronia Thompson did.
