Katy Hubener’s Ad Is On The Air

Katy Hubener’s new ad is on the air in the HD 106 special election, which is set for Feb. 28. Click the screenshot at left to play the ad.

Her ad touts her education experience and endorsements. If you can, contribute to help Katy’s campaign keep this ad running on the air until the election.

On another interesting note, it seems as though Hubener’s opponent, Kirk England, is endorsed by an interesting crew including a major advocate of legalizing slot machines, Corey Johnsen, president of Grand Prairie’s Lone Star Park.

Texans for Public Justice reports that Johnsen gave nearly $46,000 to Texas politicians during the 2004 election cycle, not far behind the Alabama-Coushatta Indian tribe:

Alabama-Coushatta Livingston Alabama-Coushatta $59,500
Larry Martin Houston LRP Group $59,100
TX Thoroughbred Breeders Austin Horse breeding $58,300
Corey Johnsen Euless Lone Star Park $45,500
Helen Kleberg Groves San Antonio Retama $45,000

Now, Johnsen is supporting Kirk England.

Though Johnsen gave small amounts to Democrats like Royce West and David Cain over the years, the bulk of his contributions have gone to Republicans, according to the Texas Ethics Commission, which lists a few of his gifts as:

Johnsen, Corey Lone Star Park Craddick, Tom $ 5,000.00 11/05/2004
Johnsen, Corey Stars Over Texas Pac, $ 17,500.00 10/20/2004
Johnsen, Corey Lone Star Park Texans For Greg Abbott, $ 2,500.00 10/19/2004
Johnsen, Corey Best Efforts Friends Of Carole Keeton Strayhorn, $ 1,000.00 12/07/2004
Johnsen, Corey Best Efforts Texans For Rick Perry, $ 5,000.00 2/11/2004
Johnsen, Corey Best Efforts David Dewhurst Committee, $ 5,000.00 2/20/2004

Note that Stars Over Texas is Craddick’s leadership PAC.

[...] It appears Bentzin’s late rush of cash and assistance from Susan Combs and company didn’t help much. And, as you note, I’m giving Texas Bloggers a big pat on the back with the little graphic there, because a lot of those guys did a heck of a lot promoting this race, especially BOR and others in or near the district. You guys & gals deserve congratulations, too. Now, it is off to the races in the special election for HD 106 with Katy Hubener!   [link] [...]
