Conservative Ties An Albatross To Cuellar, Poll Shows
Vince Leibowitz | Feb 19, 2006 | Comments 0
A recent poll conducted of residents in CD 28 shows 53 percent of potential voters are less likely to vote for incumbent Congressman Henry Cuellar because of his endorsements from conservative GOP organizations, according to a press release from the Rodriguez camp.
Only 27 percent said such endorsements would make them more likely to support Cuellar, the release notes.
Here’s some more good news for Ciro:
Among progressives, 75 percent indicated opposition to Cuellar. Even among self-styled conservatives the incumbent received less than a majority support. Figuring heavily in voters’ attitudes was a recent picture of President George W. Bush embracing Cuellar. Only 27 percent of the voters said the so called “Kiss of death†photo would make them more likely to vote for Cuellar.
Almost 50 percent of the voters considered the incumbent “weak when it comes to promoting the Democratic agenda,†and only about 1 in 4 believed Cuellar was “doing a fine job†representing the district.
Capitol Annex has also obtained a copy of the actual poll results, which you can view here. Here are the results to our favorite question:
