Swinford v. Carslile

KVII has this on the HD 87 primary, following a radio appearance by the candidates:
It was a meeting of the minds around a mic, on Friday. Two local politicians were debating the hot button issues and Pronews 7 was there, behind the scenes.
State Rep. David Swinford and his challenger, Anette Carlisle took questions from at least a dozen callers, at the KGNC radio studios.
They were far from feisty, but talk show host and moderator Greg Glenn tells us he sensed some tenseness.
Questions ranged from property taxes to sex-ed. And once again, Carlisle touted the need for change and Swinford stood on his record.
“The rural communities, which we are, have less and less bodies in Austin and that seniority and me, with three committee chairmanships, means our voice is heard.” said Swinford.
“He voted with Craddick on every education issue, which was not in favor of schools… not in favor of kids… and I feel, not in favor of our community. That’s why I’m running for a change,†countered Carlisle.
There were some topics the two were on the same side about. Both agreed lottery money would never be enough to solve the school funding issue and each backed the right to bear arms.
Swinford and Carlisle’s next debate will be March 1st. This race will be decided in the primary election on March 7th, as there are no Democrats running for the 87th State District.
