Endorsements: Houston GLBT Political Caucus
By Vince Leibowitz on Mar 4, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
Via BOR, Kuff, and others too numerous to link to here, we’ve read about the endorsements of many other groups. However, I don’t recall seeing anything about endorsements coming out of Harris County (may have missed them). At any rate, via a Google News Alert, I came across this which tells us about the Houston GLBT Political Caucus’s endorsements:
During primary elections, voters choose the nominees for the Democratic and Republican parties for national, state and county positions. The nominees’ names will appear on the ballot for the Nov. 7 general election.
“It’s critical that the GLBT community support pro-equality candidates,” said Maria Gonzales, president of the Houston GLBT Political Caucus.
On Feb. 3, the caucus released its endorsements for the election. It includes seven candidates, Bob Gammage, governor; Kevin Baily, state representative District 140; Al Bennett, state representative District 146; David Murff, U.S. representative District 7; Ted Ankrum, U.S. representative District 10; and Zinetta Burney, justice of the peace, Precinct 7.
“The Houston GLBT Political Caucus will offer all of our resources to support these candidates in the primary races,” Gonzales said.
I am kind of surprised to see a Caucus in Chris Bell’s hometown given an endorsement to his opponent. If anyone in Harris County has more thoughts on that, please leave them in the comments. We’d like to know the skinny.

Almost a month ago, this was circulated (from a GOP precinct chair supporting Chris Bell who, since this e-mail was published, has resigned that position):
So while there are a few inaccuracies in there — Bell wasn’t the only candidate publicly opposing Prop 2, for example — I’m surprised you didn’t hear the Gammageites’ heads exploding all over the state, or at least all over BOR, when this broke.
