Ann Richards Diagnosed With Cancer

Former Texas Governor Ann Richards announced today that she has cancer of the esophagus and will undergo treatment at Houston’s M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
Richards, 72, was diagnosed with the disease Tuesday, her spokesman Bill Maddox told AP.
Richards, a Democrat, was governor from 1991 to 1995, losing a re-election bid to George W. Bush. Since 2001, she has been an adviser at a public relations and lobbying firm, Public Strategies, Inc.
