Primary Post-Mortem: CD-01 (last one, I promise…)

I promise this will be my last Primary Post-Mortem, but I have to ask, how in the Hell did this happen:
Roger L. Owen        10,147    53.37%
Duane Shaw              8,865   46.63%
I hate to rag on a Democratic nominee, but Owen’s going to have to do a Candidate Makover. He’s already made anti-gay remarks and publicly called a fellow Democrat a “piece of dirt” —that will no doubt alienate him from many national givers in his attempt to unseat Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler). I’m not so sure, overall, that Pink Dome’s elegant evaluation of Mr. Owen a few weeks ago wasn’t correct.
And, his WEBSITE! He proclaims himself a “Southern Democrat” and proud of that. I’m almost wodering where the Confederate Battle Flag is on his website. To me, and I think, to most people today, “Southern Democrat,” at least, when used in the context of talking about someone with a record of remarks like Owen’s, makes you think of a racist Dixicrat. Hopefully, that’s not the case with Mr. Owen, but, nonetheless, he might want to be careful about using that “Southern Democrat” phrase.
Not only that, even The Hill paints Owen’s candidacy in a bad light, listing him in an article on “odball candidates” along with another candidate who proclaims himself as “white trash with a PhD.” Oh, lord!
