If DeLay Decided To Resign On Wednesday, Why Did He Send Out A Fund-Raising Email Thursday?

Tom DeLay told Time magazine he made the decision to resign last Wednesday:

So I made a speech on Wednesday. It was covered by C-Span and, frankly, a bunch of cameras. I felt very good, very free about giving that speech. The reaction was incredible—just an outpouring of love and support from the audience. It was probably the one single event that convinced me: I can DO this. I could keep fighting for the things I believe in, outside of Congress.

So, why did he send out a fund-raising email on Thursday lambasting the documentary “How Tom DeLay Stole Congress,” and asking for money for the campaign he knew he was not going to continue? The Washington Post had a snippit about the letter in a Sunday round-up:

In a letter sent out Thursday by his campaign, DeLay urged supporters to counteract the movie “The Big Buy: How Tom DeLay Stole Congress” by sending him donations. The film chronicles DeLay’s alleged illegal fundraising activities and will be released in theaters, stores and house parties in mid-May. DeLay called it a product of “Hollywood liberals” designed “much like Michael Moore’s ‘Fahrenheit 9-11′ . . . to influence the outcome of an election.”

Why bother with it? I mean, you know…if you know you’re dropping out…

I agree, he’s going to give it to other Republicans.

The only thing that can be done is to put pressure on those Republicans who DO recieve money from him to return it.
