The Run-off Race for Hidalgo County District Attorney…All’s Fair in Love, War, and Politics…

Less than one week away from the run-off election date, April 11, and the mud is starting to fly in the Rio Grande Valley. A place known for it’s spit in your eye tactics, and hitting below the belt punches when it comes to political campaigns. Some times they work, and some times they don’t, but rest assured at least one candidate will use them, and use them with the utmost of malice and conviction. Take for instance a campaign ad that began it’s rotation today on the local ABC affiliate, KRGV. The campaign ad accuses Hidalgo County District Attorney candidate Alma Garza’s husband, local attorney Hector Villarreal, of owing more than forty thousand dollars in taxes. It is an ad that is paid for by the Rene Guerra Campaign for Re-Election. Rene Guerra is the current Hidalgo County District Attorney. His camp’s most recent campaign slogan, “People who don’t pay their taxes, should keep their hands off ours”.Â
Very well then.  Round one. The first punch is thrown. Many political enthusiasts down here, are waiting. Wondering if Alma Garza has a few tricks up her sleeve as well, or will she take the high road and run her campaign clean and scandal free. Her slogan by the way is “It’s Time For a Change”. Let’s see if this “Change” includes a departure from the same ‘ol mudslinging as well. Â
Well quite frankly this election is over and SADLY Rene Guerra won. The real slogan for this campaign (and i’m speaking against Rene Gueraa) should be “people should not use money gained from illegal endeavors to pay their taxes!” As you can see Alma Garza ran a VERY clean race, and those are the people we should be electing into office! This brings me back to Ramon and J.D. Who started the mud slinging? who ran a clean race? EXACTLY the people’s choices have all been VERY disappointing and unfortunately by the time people realize how BAD their choices were it is going to be too LATE!! Still i ask were these really the people’s choices? or were the races manipulated? hmmmm… BIG POSSIBILITY!! After all we do have State Rep. Kino 10%Flores behind the scenes using all these people as puppets just so that he can get something in return…(and he ALWAYS wants something in return) How much in return you ask?..who konws perhaps 10%. I’m just saying those of you who do go out and vote… make sure you’re supporting the BEST candidate and when i say the BEST candidate i don’t mean the richest one and the one who is going to pay you the most for your vote.. don’t support the one who promises you the world… vote for and support the person becuase you absolutely–positively know that he/she is the right person… don’t sell your vote in the long run that person is going to be in office longer than the money will last you and if that person is not someone honest, respectful and lawful the money he/she gave you is not going to change the vote you made to put that person into office. SOMETHING TO REALLY THINK ABOUT!!
