Perry Says No Special Election In CD-22

Governor Perry announced today during a press conference at the governor’s mansion that there will be no special election to fill Tom DeLay’s seat once he officially resigns, meaning the seat won’t be filled until the November election and that Republican king-makers will get to decide who will face Nick Lampson.
Perry’s office, however, is now clarifying his remarks, saying there will be no special election unless someone can demonstrate there is a pressing need for one.
This means the GOP precinct chairs in CD-22 will get to select the nominee. Texas Safety Forum says there are exactly 100 precincts (including early voting precincts) in CD 22. Currently, 60 have precinct chairs and two more will following run-offs next week. Here’s the skinny on the empty ones:
Of those 38 empty precincts. 10 are in Missouri City. 10 are in Sugar Land. Four in Richmond. Four in Stafford. Three in Rosenberg. Two in Meadows Place. Two in Fresno. One each in Arcola, Fairchilds and Guy-Needville.
