Via press release from Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Houston):
On Tuesday April 18, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a Member of Congress from Texas, will travel to Laredo, Texas to tour the U.S./Mexico border with other Members of Congress to discuss issues pertaining to immigration, border security and border violence. Congresswoman Jackson Lee is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and is Ranking Member on the Immigration, Border Security and Claims Subcommittee.
“Nothing at this moment in history requires more cooperation between Mexico and the United States than the issues of immigration, border security and border violence.”
Congresswoman Shelia Jackson Lee will emphasize the importance of the two nations working together to implement the Smart Border plan to enhance security without impeding trade. Both countries should be applauded for their efforts in harmonizing port of entry operations but at the same time there needs to be an effort to increase cooperation relating to information sharing, enhance security along Mexico’s borders, and deterrence of alien smuggling.
Our partnership with Mexico is important to both nations because our policies have a profound effect on each other.
