Dunnam: It’s An Election Year Pat On The Back

Amendment 6: Dunnam is noting that there is a provision in HB 1 that allows for a notice to be sent to everyone in every house district to get some kind of a newsletter sent by TEA, the Governor, the SOS or who knows who.
Dunnam notes it’s nothing more than an election year pat on the back and his amendment would remove it. Eddie Rodriguez notes it amounts to a political advertisement at taxpayer expense.
Dunnam also noted that it would probably hit in October.
Now Warren Chisum is defending this saying “we all work for the voters and we would like for the voters to know that we’re going to reduce their property taxes.”
“I don’t think the average working man is going to get all of his information from the TV.”
Chisum is right about one thing, though, that the local media won’t get the story right.
Sylvester Turner challenged Chisum on this part of the bill as well.
Now Chisum is saying it could mean only one line on a tax bill. Of course, the Repubs will use it otherwise. Solomons is asking a question now.
Chisum has moved to table the amendment now.
Vote to table: Yeah: 79Â Nay: 68: So it was tabled. There’s a vote that can be used against a lot of people, i.e., they voted to send out propaganda at state expense.
