Does This Spell Trouble for Perry?

Conservative watchdog groups are now saying that the property tax relief provided in the TTRC/Sharp/Perry plan isn’t enough:

“I think it’s troubling,” said Peggy Venable, director of the Americans for Prosperity, which advocates for smaller government. “We want significant tax relief, and we want it to be meaningful and substantial. … We’ve heard a lot of promises and we have a lot of numbers out there … but if there are no real taxpayer protections, it’ll end up being a tax increase.”

This could spell trouble for Rick Perry. If Carole Strayhorn is on the ballot, though she’s more liberal than Perry, some of these groups may be throwing their support to her because (a) they may think she could deliver more tax relief with more reasonable reforms and (b) it shows once again Perry can’t deliver on any of his promises.

Normally, I’d say this was bad for Democrats, in that they could be attacked for not voting for more tax relief. But, since a vast majority of House Dems voted against three of the four bills before the House earlier this week,  I don’t think it’s quite as bad. How can these groups attack them for voting against a plan they say doesn’t provide enough “relief?”
