Because Everyone Wants A Car Dealer In The Governor’s Mansion

The Dallas Moring News has a gag-me-with-a-spoon, touchy feely piece up on Secretary of State Roger Williams. And, to the chagrin many, no doubt, the DMN engages in open speculation about Williams’ future:

“I love this job,” he said. “But I also love public service.”

Nationally, two recent secretaries of state – Kenneth Blackwell of Ohio and Katherine Harris of Florida – have followed election-year controversies with races for higher office. In Texas, the office has often been a springboard to higher positions. Past secretaries of state include former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk; U.S. Attorney General Al Gonzales; former Gov. Mark White; and Tony Garza, the U.S. ambassador to Mexico.

In the political futures market in Texas, Mr. Williams’ appointment in 2004 as secretary of state puts him within an increasingly crowded field.

“I view Roger Williams as a future gubernatorial candidate – and one who will be ready the next cycle” in 2010, said Austin political consultant Bill Miller.

Ok. So that means we’ve got Dewhurst, possibly John Sharp, and now this joker as possibilities to take over after Governor Goodhair goes…wherever Republican governors go to retire when they don’t steal the White House.

You mean we’ve got Dewhurst and Roger Williams already lining up to take on Governor Bell, right?

Roger Williams will be the best choice for Governor in 2010. He is a business man that understands what the people of the state of Tx want and he sees politics as people not parties
