Here’s your From The Blogs (Texas edition only) for May 16.
Rep. Aaron Pena’s A Capitol Blog has an excellent photo essay on the last day of the Special Session, including some fond farewells. It’s in two parts, here and here.
A Little Pollyanna has some thoughts on the end of the some thoughts on the end of the special session.
Bay Area Houston Blog tells us even the Baptists are speaking out against Tom DeLay.
Bride of Acheron discusses the Lone Star State’s Black Hole, aka the Texas Legislature.
Burnt Orange Report tells us President Bush’s poll numbers are at 42% here in his “home” state.
Capitol Crowd tells us how the Senate bid a fond farewell to its members that won’t be returning.
[Author's note: Between Rep. Pena's Blog, Robyn at Capitol Crowd, and whomever else writes on the topic of departing lawmakers, am I the only one who feels like we should be playing that annoying "Graduation Song" by Vitamin C, or, at least, "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," by Green Day.]
Causal Soap Box has some predictions for U.S. Senate elections across the nation.
Common Sense tells us Chet Edwards is talking about Waco’s dirty little secret (the water).
Dallas Blog tells us about the Harris County GOP demanding that Governor Perry veto the tax bills.
Eye on Williamson has Mary Beth Harrell’s latest on Congressman John Carter.
Grits for Breakfast tells us about the failure of the jail bond elections in Smith County over the weekend.
In the Pink Texas has a fine round-up of headlines from across the state on the close of the special session.
Just Another Blog has a more lengthy rundown of the session from start to finish.
And, Lobby Duck has taken note of the “Lobby Duck Challenge” I posed here at Capitol Annex. Even though it is all in good fun, I am thinking they’re going to take a pass at it. Sad, too…Perhaps, we’ll sweeten the pot with a promise of a donation to a favorite candidate or chairty? Expect more on this (and, I also think, after some deductive reasoning (or some kind of reasoning, I guess) that I *might* know who Lobby Duck is. Well, let me rephrase: I think I know who Lobby Duck is, but I can’t remember the name to put with the face. Either way, we’ll respect LD’s anonomity but pout because they don’t like our little challenge.
Pink Dome tells us why they’ll miss Mary Denny.
South Texas Chisme tells us the ERCOT chief has quit.
