From the “Only In East Texas,” files:
VAN—The Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 17-year-old Van High School student Wednesday on bootlegging charges and may bring charges against his mother, Sheriff Pat Burnett said.
Burnett said his office worked with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to investigate a claim that the student was selling alcohol out of the home he shared with his mother at 421 Van Zandt County Road 1311. He said undercover sheriff’s investigators went to the house and purchased an alcoholic beverage there.
…
Burnett said officers found approximately 2,690 alcohol containers at the residence and seized $1,100 in cash. He said 500 of those containers were 32-ounce bottles of beer and 40 bottles contained liquor, and that the containers filled the trunks of two vehicles and the cab of a pickup truck.
Since graduation was this weekend, and all of the county is dry, I’m sure that was probably put a hamper on a lot of folk’s graduation celebrations (especially those of the graduates’ themselves):
Burnett said the student was supplying alcohol to a wide range of people, including Van High School students.
Hum. Interesting.
