GOP Speeding Up CD-22 Process; Dems To Have Full-Blown Trial

Quorem Report is reporting that the GOP is speeding up its process to pick a nominee for CD-22 following the expiraton of the state court TRO Friday which prevented them from taking any action in that regard.
Tina “God is the Chairman of my Party” Benkiser has reportedly notified the four County Chairs in CD-22 to get their precinct chairs together and coronate electors to meet to pick DeLay’s replacement.
Of course, nothing much can really happen before Monday, when what was going to be a brief hearing on the lawsuit filed by the Democratic Party of Texas has been converted to a full-blown trial on merits. QR notes:
Meanwhile, federal Judge Sam Sparks surprised many when he decided to convert Monday’s hearing to a full tilt trial on the merits of the case brought by the Texas Democratic Party. They are arguing that DeLay’s actions prohibit the Republican Party from replacing his name on the ballot.
Notwithstanding the outcome of the trial, Republicans are continuing the process of selecting a candidate to replace DeLay.
Keep in mind that, right now, it may really seem like a “race,” and that if Repubs actually select a nominee before Sparks rules (unlikely) Sparks’ ruling could make the nominee a moot issue.
Of course, the Wannabe-DeLays are not taking this hiatus laying down. Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace began airing a radio spot attacking Nick Lampson. And, of course, fellow Replacement Player Shelley Sekula-Gibbs is hitting the pavement, too, and QR notes that some in the district say she has the highest profile in the race because of her wingnut efforts against undocumented laborers in Houston.
Time will tell.
