Where In The World Is Gene Seaman?
By Vince Leibowitz on Jun 26, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
While the good folks of Texas House District 32 are working at their jobs and trying to figure out if they can afford to take their families on vacation this summer thanks to high gas prices, their State Representative, Gene Seaman (R-Corups Christi) is enjoying a cooler climate.
In Vail, Colorado.
At his quarter-million-dollar plus “vacation” home (tax records here and here).
Yes, that’s where Britney Spears and Cameron Diaz like to hang out, too.
That should clue the good people of HD-32 into the fact that either (a) Seaman doesn’t take his race with Juan Garcia seriously, or that (b) he’s waiting on an influx of cash and nasty mailers to drop into his district at the last minute, a la 2002.
And, we know it isn’t (a). I’ve heard from a couple of folks I know “in the lobby,” who say you can damned near expect a call from Gene Seaman every other day asking for money. No word on if he’s making those calls from the comfy confines of his Vail condo (or duplex—tax records aren’t clear, but it is a two-story dwelling) or if he’s taken a few weeks off from begging for bucks while he sips lattes with Britney and Cameron.
One thing is for sure, though. If folks in HD-32 need their state representative right now, they can’t just drive across the district to his office. They’d better head on up to Vail, Colorado (Deer Boulevard, to be exact; actually in the tony “Eagle Vail Metropolitan District” [which seems to operate like some sort of exclusive country club] just west of Vail).
So, if it makes you a little hot-under-the-collar that one of Tom Craddick’s most beloved House Members is spending time at his Vail home while you’re working and Juan Garcia and the “Army of Juan” are doing grassroots campaigning in the 110-degree heat of HD-32, please donate to Juan Garcia!

Nice postcard Vince!
[...] While “Colorado Gene” is hunkered down in Vail, Colorado hoping his fatcat lobbyist friends and Republican-leaning PACS fresh with cash from James Leininger and Bob Perry will win his campaign for him, dozens of grassroots volunteers—from students to senior citizens—are making contact with voters in HD-32 and showing them that Gene Seaman is out of touch—and out of the district. [...]
[...] Clearly, Seaman, who has spent part of the summer at his vacation home in Vail Colorado, is in serious trouble. [...]
