Pre July 4 Link Dump

A few links I want to “dump” on you prior to the July 4th Holiday. All of this will be on the test, so you’d better check them out.

Campaign to raise the minimum wage. I was just emailed a link to the AFL-CIO’s ongoing campaign to raise the minimum wage. It is worth an examination, especially when you look at the facts about minimum-wage jobs and incomes.

Via the Progressive States’ Network, their Daily PLAN Blog tells us how one Democratic governor may be redefining the entire tax debate for progressives.

Unity08 (that ‘new movement’ that was all the rage for about five minutes a few weeks ago that will aim to create a “mixed” Democratic/Republican ticket for President in ‘08)  has published its Declaration of Independence. Personally, I was amused by their email claiming that “over 5,105″ people had already joined the movement and were counting on my support…gee, 5,105 people won’t even get you on the ballot for Governor in Texas.
I loathe the Washington Times, but this article includes some interesting quotes from Bonilla and Doggett on redistricting, with both noting it is a pipe dream to think fixing the 23rd won’t have a huge domino effect.

There is a new “breed” of boxed wines out, according to MSNBC. So, I guess I can no longer make fun of boxed wine. Anyway, check it out if you are tired of breaking glass wine bottles while trying to set off fireworks in your driveway in Highland Park, Alamo Heights, or Bellaire.

Finally, I’ve already received THREE COPIES of the 40-year-old recycled Paul Harvey story “The Price They Paid” via email this holiday weekend. So if you get it (and it begins like this):

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured by the British as traitors and tortured before they died.

Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.

Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.

…for Goodness Sakes, please tell them they are full of crap and direct them here, here, and here for the real story on the signers of the Declaration of Independence.
