Attention Charlie Howard: Check Out Snopes.com

By Vince Leibowitz  on Jul 5, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections

Leave it to Republican State Representatives to post every touchy-feely story about the Founders of the Republic mass emailed and spammed out around the Fourth of July to their campaign websites.

Sad thing is, though, this time it was State Rep. Charlie Howard, who many believe is the likely man to be fill Tom DeLay’s spot in CD-22. On his site he now has posted inaccurate and incorrect information about the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Of course, if Mr. Howard was a CapitolAnnex.com reader, he would have taken note of my warning about the inaccuracies in the popular July 4th e-mail forward/story “The Price They Paid.

Now, granted, major Texas daily newspapers have been fooled by the well-crafted “Price They Paid” story. But, you’d think someone who wants to be a U.S. Congressman would do a bit more checking before putting up a piece of “prose” history like this on their website.

In case you’re wondering how I found out about this (no, I do not visit every Republican candidate in Texas’ website every day), it was through The Markum Report, (specifically this post) billed as “The Conservative Blog of Galveston County Texas,” which is one of many blogs I read daily.

Howard got the second highest number of votes in a straw poll of the Fort Bend County precinct chairs tonight after they selected their Gang of Four member (Terese Raia.) I was at the meeting. Read my full report at my blog by clicking on my name!

    Vince,

Thank you for giving me the heads up about snopes.com. I will post a corrected updated; even if we are on different sides of the aisle, we bloggers have to keep each other accurate. We’ll be having our CD 22 meeting tomorrow at 7p here in Galveston County; Brazoria County is having theirs around 8:30p, so the entire CD 22 Disrtict Commitee should be in place by Friday. Hopefully, Judge Sparks will release his ruling tomorrow or Friday and we can get on with it.

Thanks again for the heads up.

    Vince,

By the way, I do a weekly Internet radio show called Anything League City where I do a point/counetrpoint with a local Dem precinct Chair and then we have a guest for about 40 minutes.

In case any of your readers are interested, tonight’s guest was the Dem candidate for CD 14, Shane Sklar who is running against Congressman Ron Paul.

You can listen/download the interview tomorrow after about 1p at: http://www.leaguecity.biz

If you check the archives from March ‘06?, we did a telephone interview with Nick Lampson as well and we did a live interview last week with St. Rep Robert Talton who is trying to get selected as the CD 22 nominee.
