You Probably Noticed The Masthead…

You probably noticed there is a new “temporary” masthead up here at Capitol Annex.
As I mentioned in my July 4th post, it is time for the Netroots to help reign in the errant Texas Congressmen helping hold up reauthorization of the VRA. I urge you to call the offices of the Congressmen listed above and urge them to stop their foolishness (and, in the case of Gohmert, pull his amendment) and support reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act immediately.

Except, of course, for the fact that Johnson and his supporters intended for those provisions to be temporary, and they had an expiration date of 1970.
And, of course, that the areas covered are based upon 1964 election data — rather than using current data to find areas of actual CURRENT voter discrimination.
So explain to me exactly why you want data that is more or less as old as I am to set public policy rather than fresh data.
The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), just released
a report on the critical and continuing need for voter language assistance
under the Voting Rights Act. It’s online at:
