Voting Rights Act Update

Congress is supposed to be debating the reauthorization of the Voting Rights Act this week. However, all I’ve seen in the House floor business for the last couple of days are fish hatcheries and internet gambling bills and the like.
In the interim, check out that the U.S. Catholic Bishops are behind renewal of the VRA without delay.
Also, a University of Arkansas historian has out a new book about Johnson that argues that the same Johnson idealism that drove the programs of the Great Society and the civil rights legislation also, sadly, drove Johnson’s policies on the Vietnam war.
