Noyola Says He Has Enough Votes To Replace Luna
By Vince Leibowitz on Jul 23, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
The Corpus Christi Caller Times reports that Danny Noyola claims that he has enough commitments from precinct chairs in State Rep District 32 to lock up the nomination to succeed Vilma Luna (D-Corpus Christi), who announced her resignation earlier this month:
“The magic number is 22,” he said referring to the number of votes needed from Democratic precinct chairs to win the seat. “I’m above that, but we need to maintain the support we have.”
Meanwhile, the CCCT reports that Solomon Ortiz, Jr. (son of the Congressman of the same name) is doing his best to win over precinct chairs as well:
The other strong contender for the position, Solomon Ortiz Jr., is in full battle mode, trying to woo Democratic precinct chairs to his side. He is throwing a pachanga today at Saxet Hall with free food and live music. And Tuesday night, he is taking supporters on a cruise around the bay, complete with food and drinks.
The vote to replace Luna is set for August 13.

I wouldn’t take Danny’s word on that like Jaime Powell did.
The word I heard from folks who have ACTUALLY talked to precinct chairs is Ortiz will take it.
