GOP Officials Meet In CD-22

Texas Republican Party Chairwoman Tina Benkiser has called together party leaders (presumably State Republican Executive Committee Members and county chairs, and possibly a candidate or two) in Congressional District 22 for a secret meeting at an undisclosed location.

The officials are reportedly going to try to decide on a write-in candidate to run once DeLay withdraws.

Shelly Sekula-Gibbs and David Wallace are, of course, the front-runners. Expect these two replacement players to battle it out. I hear that both will avail themselves of the opportunity to be write-in candidates regardless of what the GOP does.

Further, if the GOP does “get behind” one write-in candidate, it can only spell disaster for that candidate if they keep carrying on in secret like they are doing now.
