What’s John Carter Afraid Of?

By Vince Leibowitz  on Aug 17, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections

Congressman John Carter (R-Round Rock) refuses to debate Mary Beth Harrell.

My question: Why is he so scared of a debate?

Harrell challenged Carter yesterday to a debate on the local PBS station. Carter says this about debates:

“People earn the right to debate me,” Carter said in the interview. “I will determine how and not them.”

He also says a candidate has to have “credibility” to debate him.
In addition to going on my list of Texas politicians who sound like Eric Cartman from South Park, Carter needs to step off his high horse and realize that Mary Beth Harrell has credibility. Serious credibility.

For one thing, as a military wife and mother, Harrell has a lot more credibility than Carter on any military or war related issues. Carter has never served one day in uniform. Carter should be careful about throwing stones in this regard, since he did run into her oldest son in Iraq a few months back.

If you live in this district, you can go here to find out more about how you can encorage Carter to debate Mary Beth.
