Wallace Takes A Swipe At The GOP

By Vince Leibowitz  on Aug 21, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections, Replacing DeLay

Fort Bend Now reports that replaced replacement player David Wallace was taking some serious swipes at the GOP in his  exit speech today:

Wallace took a swipe at that process Monday. “In a session closed to the public, an alternative candidate received the endorsement of the Texas Republican Party by winning a straw poll of 83 precinct chairs that were allowed to vote for what was labeled ‘the Republican choice’ for the write-in candidate to replace Tom DeLay,” he said.

Since that night, “I have received hundreds and hundreds of emails and phone calls” by “people who were not allowed to vote” at the Thursday meeting, and who “strongly encouraged me to continue to run,” Wallace said.

Oh, and national Republicans are evidently planning on making Sekula-Gibbs latecoming campaign the most expensive race in American History:

Nonetheless, Wallace said, Texas GOP Chairman Tina Benkiser announced that “she had a commitment for $3 million for this race from Washington” as long as there was only one GOP write-in candidate.

After they spend the $3 million dollars telling people how to use ESlate and teaching them how to spell Sekula-Gibbs, they’ll need another six million to actually get people to vote for her.

Of course, now Sekula-Gibbs and Wallace are now making love to each other in the press:

Later Monday afternoon, Sekula-Gibbs released a statement saying “With his departure, I am the only Republican write-in candidate on the ballot. Mr. Wallace has been the perfect gentleman. He called and said I have his support.”

Oh, my. The Perfect Gentleman. Really!

    $3 million, + $6 million…
My SWAG number was $20 million
and I hope they spend that much,
    -as long as they lose.
This is no longer “Tom’s Country,”
-if it ever was, and it’s getting
harder to find a “W” sticker on a SUV
    these days.
The ‘Party of Harding’ is steaming through iceberg-strewn seas.
Hope those Good Ol’People got their
    golden life preservers on.
