TRMPAC Defendants Before Appeals Court, Absent DeLay

Two of Tom DeLay’s Texans for a Republican Majority cronies had their cases heard by the Third Court of Appeals in Austin Tuesday.

Attorneys for the pair, Jim Ellis and John Colyandro, argued that the indictments stemming from the activities of TRMPAC during the 2002 election cycle should be tossed out.

Of course, lawyers for the Travis County DA’s office disagreed, remind the court that TRMPAC sent $190,000 in corporate checks to the Republican National Committee and that the RNC, in turn, laundered that money back by sending non-corporate funds to seven Texas candidates (Todd Baxter, Dwayne Bohac, Glenda Dawson, Dan Flynn, Rick Green, Jack Stick, and Larry Taylor).

A Travis County grand jury indicted Ellis, Colyandro and DeLay last fall on money-laundering charges and returned lesser felony charges against Colyandro for accepting corporate donations.
