CD 22, 23, 21: More Entertaining Than Fantasy Football

By Vince Leibowitz  on Aug 28, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections

These days, the only thing I get more emails about than Fantasy Football (somehow, I got on some Yahoo! spam list) is CD 22.

EVERYONE (especially those anonomous tipsters) seems to have something to say about the candidates in CDs 22, 21 and 23. Everything from “so-and-so is a heroin addict” to “Oh. My. God. Did you SEE what Shelley Sekula-Gibbs was wearing the other day? Eck!” has crossed through my inbox in the past few days. I barely know where to begin.

Probably the most amusing place to begin is CD 22. Kuff has an excellent wrap-up of the goings on. I shudder to think about various “aliases” for Shelley Sekula-Gibbs being programmed into voting machines to be acceptable for write-in candidates. To me, “write-in” means, write in, and pencil and paper is the only way for accountability in a write in race.

I agree with Mike Malaise’s thoughts that anyone who wants to write in Sekula-Gibbs had damned well better put her first and last names on the ballot. After all, the spelling will be right there on posted signs. Misspelling her name would be like failing an open-book spelling test.

Next, to CD-23. I’m sure Henry Bonillia is having some sleepless nights about now.

A big issue in the district is Thursday’s San Antonio AFL-CIO meeting. Ciro Rodriguez depends a great deal on a strong Union base, so their endorsement will be key, should he secure it.

And, via an unnamed poster at BOR, we learn that Gilliland’s money will allow the “millionaire’s threshold” to be reached and for Bonillia to tap his wealthy contributors yet again.
