Where In The World Is Lena Guerrero?
By Vince Leibowitz on Sep 12, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
Here’s another one from last week that I’m not sure how I missed, but I’m probably glad I did, because I would have fainted.
Remember Lena Gurrero, once the highest-ranking Hispanic woman in state government in the nation who had the “resume problem?”
For some reason she has endorsed Texas Governor Rick Perry for re-election:
Former Texas Railroad Commissioner Lena Guerrero, a lifelong Democrat, endorsed Republican Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday in his campaign for re-election.
The two served together in the Texas House of Representatives in the 1980s.
“I can think of no better person to continue leading this state than Rick Perry,” Guerrero said in a statement issued by Perry’s campaign. “For the 22 years I’ve known Rick, he has always been a decent, compassionate leader, and even when we may have disagreed on the issues, we did so with an attitude of civility.”
Guerrero, who is battling brain cancer, is a lobbyist who lives in Austin.
Just on general principal, I can’t see why anyone who was given so much hell by the Republicans during her public life would endorse their candidate for Governor.
Further, it’s just beyond me why so many Latinos are endorsing Perry…from Valley mayors to, now, Gurrero. What’s the deal?

Yeah, what’s wrong with these Hispanics? First, they give Bush a majority of their vote in his last gubernatorial race and then 40 percent is his presidential run. Now we have them running as Republicans! Gotta stop all this independent thinking before it gets out of hand.
