Stupid Things Republican Congressmen Say, Vol. XII
By Vince Leibowitz on Oct 2, 2006 in Politicians Say...
Add this to your ever-growing list of stupid things said by Republican Congressmen from Texas. The offender this time is Kevin Brady (R-The Woodlands):
“If you are living in the United States and are communicating with a known al-Qaeda terrorist, there’s a reasonable national security concern and a need to monitor that communication. People who talk to al-Qaeda terrorists are not just asking about the weather and whether the Cowboys will make it to the Super Bowl,†Brady said.
First of all, al-Qaeda terrorists must be really stupid if they’re actually pondering whether or not the Cowboys will make it to the Super Bowl. Everyone knows they won’t.
Second, Brady failed to note that this is yet another erosion of civil liberties given that the law actually made it easier to get warrants for wiretaps under existing laws.
