For Friedman, It’s Too Little, Too Late
By Vince Leibowitz on Oct 20, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
Evidently, Kinky Friedman has decided he has intercepted all the votes he can from Republicans Rick Perry and Carole Strayhorn, so he’s going whole-hog after liberal democrats with a healthcare proposal.
And, it’s truly laughable. “Tiers” of coverage, “modeled after Minnesota” and “Jesse Ventura” are all you need to know.
Friedman doesn’t have the credibility—and never will—to pull this off. For one thing, it shows just how ignorant he is of politics in Texas and the political landscape of the legislature. If he thinks he could force this plan down the mouth of the Legislature, then he’s been smoking something with Willie Nelson.
His naivete is laughable. The state can’t adequately fund public education, but 55 percent of the cost for this would come from the state. And, he’s depending on (baw haw haw) the federal government to come up with another 35 percent, with 10 percent for premiums.
Oh, my god….
