According to a new poll released by Glenn Melancon (D-Sherman), Melancon is within eight points of incumbent Congressman Ralph Hall (R-Rockwall) with ten percent of voters still undecided.
This poll of likely voters shows that the race may be competitive for the first time since the 1980s:
Hall        Melancon      Other    Don’t Know
48%Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 41%Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 1%Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 10%
The poll does have a margin of error of +/- 5.2%.
Hall received 68% of the vote in 2004 over Jim Nickerson in the first year he was forced to run as a Republican and in a reconfigured district.
The district, which was once held by House Speaker Sam Rayburn, includes Bowie, Cass, Camp, Cass, Collin, Delta, Fannin, Franklin, Grayson, Hopkins, Hunt, Lamar, Morris, Rains, Red River, Rockwall and Titus Counties.
