TX HD-11: Battle Of The Negative Ads

By Vince Leibowitz  on Oct 24, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections

Sadly, if you’re not in the Tyler/Longview/Lufkin/Nacgodoches media market, you’re not getting to see some of the best negative ads of this election cycle in CD 11, where Chuck Hopson (D-Jacksonville) is fighting off a challenge from Republican Larry Durrett, a voucher advocate.

Unfortunatly, I don’t have any clips for you, but I can tell you a little about one of the ads—my personal favorite—which is running right now. First off, Durrett went on the offensive against Hopson over immigration, Hopson went after Durrett, and now they’re going neg/neg. Anyway, Hopson, a conservative Democrat (he has Bill Ratliff’s endorsement) who is running in a conservative district, is now running ads in which he quotes Rep. Charlie Geren (R-Fort Worth), who was a victim of the Leninger 5, defending him against Durrett’s attacks about his voting record. Durrett has made claims about Hopson voting for all sorts of “benefits” for illegal immigrants which even ultra-right-wing (’Power of Prayer’ Every Sunday Night At 10:30!!) KLTV basically has debunked.

Anyway, it’s a race with great negative ads, for those of us who love negative ads.
