Rick Perry’s ATM In No Danger Of Drying Up
By Vince Leibowitz on Oct 31, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
Regardless of what happens this election cycle, I know we’ll all sleep easier knowing that Rick Perry’s network of contributors, many of which have served as campaign ATMs for him for years, are in no danger of drying up:
He benefited from a $500,000 donation from the Republican Governor’s Association and a continued stream of big-dollar donations. Houston homebuilder Bob Perry (no relation) put another $150,000 into the governor’s campaign treasury in October, bringing his total contributions to $840,000 in the re-election race.
San Antonio software entrepreneur David Spencer gave $65,000. Mr. Spencer is chairman of the governor’s Emerging Technology Fund, which recently pledged $4 million for equipment at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.
Other major contributions include $50,000 each from Stevan Hammond, owner of PoPoLos Cafe in Dallas; Houston highway builder James Pitcock, whose firm is a contractor in the Trans-Texas Corridor; and Dallas investor Harlan Crow, an early backer of Mrs. Strayhorn.
While the most amusing tidbit here is that Harlan Crow flip-flopped it is especially interesting to note that the Chairman of the governor’s “Emerging Technology Fund” is giving big bucks and that, of course, Bob Perry is as intent on buying this governor’s race as he was the last one.
