Vote For Me! I’m “Interested!”

By Vince Leibowitz  on Oct 31, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections

Susan Combs, who poses as the typical “Faith, Family, Freedom” Republican but who once wrote a smut-filled romance novel that does anything but espouse GOP values (especially abstinance), has one main reason people should allow her to control the state’s purse strings (at least, to the degree the Comptroller of Public Accounts controls the purse strings):

Ms. Combs, elected agriculture commissioner in 1998, said that since serving previously in the Legislature, she’s been interested in how tax money is spent. Ms. Combs, 61, served two terms in the state House.

“Vote for me! I’m Interested!” That’s about as exciting as her television commercials. And, if you have seen those, you know they are nowhere near as exciting as the pages of her steamy romance novel.

The interesting thing about this race to me is why vending machine companies, soft drink companies, and snack food companies aren’t trying to get some revenge against Combs. If I recall correctly, her ‘regulations’ about school lunches and what can and cannot be served at school put a real hitch in the get-a-long of some of these groups. But, I guess not.
