Statewide: Will The Faux Robo Calls Come To Texas?
By Vince Leibowitz on Nov 6, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
Talking Points Memo reports that Democratic congressional campsigns across the country are falling victim to one of the Republican Party’s favorite dirty trick: faux robo calls.
To wit:
More and more reports coming in of irate voters calling various House Democratic campaigns complaining about the repeat-call-back robocalls.
In other words, these are the harassing calls paid for by the NRCC made to appear that they’re from the Democratic campaign. And a lot of angry voters are getting fooled by the scam, it seems.
The main question is, ‘will this tactic come to Texas,?’ and I believe it goes without saying that it will. First and foremost, robo calls are cheap, and the NRCC can drop them even in races where they aren’t dropping millions on television or GOTV efforts.
I fully expect Chet Edwards, Nick Lampson, Will Pryor, Shane Sklar, Mary Beth Harrell and probably Ted Ankrum to be on the Republicans’ radar when it comes to dropping some trashy tactic like this.
I’ve also heard that the Republican Party of Texas is supposedly paying for some serious election day robo calls, but haven’t seen any proof yet.
