INTERVIEW WITH CIRO RODRIGUEZ

Saying that it may be Wednesday morning before the final result is known in the CD-23 race, former U.S. Congressman Ciro Rodriguez (D-San Antonio) said he remained confident that Congressman Henry Bonilla (R-San Antonio) would continue to stay under 50 percent as the final counts roll in in the next hours.

“A couple of counties are still out, but all indications are that we are in a runoff,” Rodriguez said. He did note there were some reports from Medina County about counting problems.

Rodriguez said Real and Medina Counties were still out and that Real County may not finish its count until sometime Wednesday morning.

When asked if Rodriguez believed he could take the district if he did in fact make it into a runoff, he was certain:

“There is no doubt. I want you to think about the reverse, if there were seven Republicans and one Democrat, it would have been a different story. Here we had six Democrats, one independent and Bonilla–one Republican. With all the money he had he still could not get past 47, at least as of now. And, he did everything in the book,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez alleged that Bonilla had even made robo calls into some counties that claimed he was a Democrat.
While Rodriguez said he hadn’t heard from the DCCC yet, and it is still early given that ballots are not totally counted, he had been getting calls from labor leaders and others who were ready to “get zeroed in” and win within the next 35 days.
