The Bright Side…Some Predictions…

Unfortunatly, the entire statewide Democratic ticket lost, and most of our non-incumbent Congressional candidates did not make it—even stars like Shane Sklar for whom we all had very high hopes for.
Even the Aging Prom Queen got another term, even though Barbara Radnofsky ran a very issue-oriented campaign and hit her hard. Radnofsky did a great job.
But, there is a bright side…there are several in fact. We’ve made several gains in the Lege, possibly just enough to force Tom Craddick from the speaker’s rostrum.
And, speaking of speakers, Nancy Pelosi will be the new Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Oh, yes…I’m sure 500 people reading this post are bitching about how liberal she is. The fact is, though, she’ll do a great job.
Another bright side is that we never have to listen to Carole Strayhorn again. She’s out of politics and her opportunism will not be around to cost another Democrat the governorship.
As for Kinky Friedman, hopefully he’ll go back to his ranch, laugh about his run for governor, and never make another one as long as he lives. On the bright side for him, of course, he can probably now write a murder mystery about a man who was running for governor that involves bloggers, a bowling alley and “decriminilized” weed. We eagerly await that book, which we will respectfully decline to read.
Also on the bright side, there are a couple of candidates who were on the wrong side of vote totals tonight that you can bet will be hotly recruited for different races in 2008: Hank Gilbert, Shane Sklar and Barbara Radnofsky.
Personally, I think Gilbert would make a great State Senator, Sklar a good State Rep and Radnofsky a great Congresswoman. Hey…it could happen. It may happen. On that note, Mary Beth Harrell better not dissappear from the landscape, either. She’s got spunk and Texas Democrats need that. I want to see her on a ballot again.
And, my favorite, we get to start predicting what’s going to happen in 2008.
Early predictions include Nick Lampson versus John Cornyn for U.S. Senate.
Yet one more bright side is that your makeover looks great.
