Two Million Dollar Shely

I’ve heard from various and sundry sources in CD-22 this evening that Shelley Sekula-Gibbs both will and won’t accept the Congressional seat she won in the Special Election (yep, she won and nobody cares, it was barely even blogged).
Given that the price tag for the special election her resignation from the Houston City Council is pegged at about $2 million, I’m thinking that Sekula-Gibbs will take her victory and stay home and not accept the position, which is something a number of people are saying.
After all, when she runs again for this post in 2008, which she will, she surely wouldn’t want to be tagged with the nickname “Two Millon Dollar Baby.”
And, given that she IS the Republican Party’s candidate, they’d probably back her decision and find some reason that SSG doesn’t need to assume her new seat for all of about 40 days.
