Shelley “Short Timer” Sekula-Gibbs

By Vince Leibowitz  on Nov 12, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections

It appears Shelley Sekula-Gibbs will be taking her seat as the Congresswoman from Congressional District 22 following her win in the Very Special Election.

Of course, she’ll only serve until Nick Lampson is sworn in shortly after the first of the year.

And, though she’ll serve only a brief tenure, that’s not stopping her from having a swearing-in celebration, followed by a reception (with danishes!) the next day.

So, what does a Congresswoman who will have a shorter shelf life than Crystal Pepsi say at her swearing-in ceremony?

How about this: If Shelley Sekula-Gibbs is in Congress for a month and a half (we’re being generous), she’ll have served for about 45 days. Since I’ve heard the figure of about $2.5 million having been spent on her race by her campaign and the NRCC, we’ll use that for our math.

And, guess what:

Each day Shelley Sekula-Gibbs spends in Congress cost her (and the NRCC) $55,555.55 (roughly). Now that’s a high-dollar Congressional race.
