Texas Republicans Vie For Congressional Leadership Positions
Vince Leibowitz | Nov 13, 2006 | Comments 0
With Republicans in the minority in Congress and splintered as a result of their recent election losses, several Texans have thrown their hats into the congressional leadership ring.
Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis) is hoping to replace his job as Chairman of the House Energy & Commerce Committee with the job of Minority Leader.
Kay Granger (R-Fort Worth) has decided to run for GOP Conference Vice Chair. This is particularly interesting because Granger doesn’t have either a lot of national name recognition (aside from her “book”) or a terribly massive record of legislative accomplishment.
And, of course, Pete Sessions (R-Dallas) is seeking the position of NRCC Chairman.
I would predict, however, that because of such a “Texas backlash” as a result of none other than Tom DeLay, we won’t see any Texas Republicans in the leadership.
