Former Congressman To Head Texas Tech

By Vince Leibowitz  on Nov 14, 2006 in Texas Education

Kent Hance, a former West Texas Congressman who was elected as a Democrat and became a Republican after his service in Congress, has been been tapped to lead Texas Tech University as its next Chancellor.

It’s interesting that Tech, as well as other institutions in Texas, seem to tap a lot of people with government service (elected or otherwise) as Chancellors or leaders.

State Sen. John Montford was a former Tech Chancellor, as was former state Health Commissioner David Smith, whom Hance follows.

Give Hance a little slack….After all he did beat George W. when he ran for Congress in 1978!….If only George had taken the hint then!

Ahhhh! Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I failed to notice that in his Wikipedia entry. He gets some props for that, to be sure.

Hance was an opportunistic party jumper like the evil Gramm. I remember a truth squad that dogged him called
    “People Who Know Kent Hance.”

    Judge Chief Charly Hoarse,

What? What! What? Please tell me you have a flier laying around in your files somewhere you can scan and email to us to post! We’d just *love* that.
