“Best Election Blogging” From The San Antonio Current

By Vince Leibowitz  on Nov 15, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections

We here at Capitol Annex are deeply humbled to have been awarded the “as-yet nonexistent” trophy for Best Election Blogging from the San Antonio Current.

In their column this week, “The Morning After Poll,” Capitol Annex got a very nice nod from the publication. It was so kind to us, in fact, that we’re willing to overlook the fact that “Capitol Annex” was listed as CapitalAnnex.com, although we do reserve the right to poke fun at the Current for the typo:

Our Electronic Vote

The as-yet nonexistent trophy for Best Election Blogging goes to Vince Leibowitz at CapitalAnnex.com, for his particularly noteworthy “Best & Worst of the 2006 Election” list and deconstruction of Rick Perry’s victory party. The blogosphere has now bored with election analysis and moved on to debating the future of House Speaker Tom Craddick. Bloggernaut Paul Burka (Texasmonthly.com/burkablog) called for the Republican’s resignation, with Matt Glazer (Burntorangereport.com) seconding the emotion. Leibowitz scooped them both (and us, too!) by publishing a letter from Representative Jessica Farrar to the Texas Ethics Commission complaining that lobbyists are threatening and promising favors to get their Speaker candidate(s) picked. Already nearly 30 State House Democrats have pledged their support for Craddick.

We are both cheered and saddened to be mentioned in the same category as Paul Burka. Cheered, because everyone knows who he is, making it “flattering” to be in the same company as he; and saddened because now that my readers know he has a blog, they are more likely to visit it.  (Warning: Do not drink Paul Burka’s Kool-Aide!!!! He gets paid to blog! He doesn’t just do it for fun!)

Anyway, thanks to the Current for noticing little old Capitol Annex.

In the vein of Good Election Blogging Awards, we would also encourage the Mainstream Media (and alternative weeklies) to take notice of the good work done by blogs not mentioned here. The blogs like Musings, Half Empty, Bay Area Houston, The View from 22 and others from Congressional District 22 deserve a gold medal this election cycle for the work they’ve done not only in covering the CD 22 race but also on things like tracking State Rep. John Davis’ ethical lapses (not to mention his “fish fry grease accident” that caused a lot of problems as well).

Thank you, Vince! You did a lot to help get my blog off the ground. I started on Good Friday of this year and it’s been fun, especially with the teamwork with the other bloggers nailing our Fort Bend County judge (that started with a tip from you) and frying up John Davis with my Bay Area Houston partner!

    Muse,

You and the other Fort Bend bloggers have a lot to be proud of. You are a great example of what localized netroots really means.
