Are We Swiftboating Hillary Already?

Evidently, rich people in Texas have nothing better to do with their money than to throw it away trying to thwart Democrats’ presidential bids.

And, with the goal of pulling other wealthy Texas Republicans into his network (paging Bob Perry & James Leininger), Collins expects to raise millions to stop Hillary:

“We expect to raise millions of dollars, a lot of it from online people and a lot of it from wealthy, conservative donors from around the country that want to keep Hillary Clinton from being elected president,” Mr. Collins said. This time, however, instead of Houston homebuilder Bob Perry, it’s  a man named Richard Collins, who has poured at least $80,000 into a group called “Stop Her Now” aimed at thwarting the as yet non-existant presidential campaign of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY).

Former Texas Land Commissioner and 1998 Democratic gubernatorial nominee Gary Mauro calls the venture what it is–a “bad investment:”

“They should save their money to attack people who are relatively unknown,” said Mr. Mauro, a former Texas land commissioner and long-time political ally of the Clintons.

Mr. Mauro said Ms. Clinton is so well-known that groups like Stop Her Now are likely to have little impact on changing the strong opinions that people already have about her.

Ms. Clinton won a lightly contested re-election race to her New York Senate seat in November and is weighing a presidential bid.
