Gift Ideas For Lobbyists, Part II

By Vince Leibowitz  on Dec 5, 2006 in Uncategorized

Yesterday, we explored some gift ideas for the discerning lobbyist who might be interested in impressing Speaker Tom Craddick (R-Midland).

Today, we have a bit of a sadder note: Gene Seaman. Seaman is on his way out after his defeat by Juan Garcia on election day. However, given that Seaman may end up as a lobbyist himself one day, we know that Lobbyists will want to make their final gift to ol’ Gene a doozie. So, we have some ideas.

During the CondoGate scandal, Gene Seaman was very quick to blame his wife for the tax issues related to his condo.

Since we all know how stressful it must be on a marriage when you have to keep blaming your spouse for stuff for political reasons, we recommend that lobbyists give Gene Seaman the e-book, “When In Doubt, Blame the Aliens!” This book really seems like one for the ‘tin foil hat crowd,’ but, if it is about shifting blame to someone more believable than “my wife did it,” it’s probably a good choice.

Since we all know Gene has that lovely second home in Vail that he’ll doubtless be spending more time at now that he’s out of the Lege, we assume Seaman will want to take up skiing. In that case, for under $600 these Scarpa North America ski boots are a great good-bye gift.

Joan Kennedy Taylor’s “Sexual Harassment: A Non-Advaserial Approach” is also a good gift idea for ol’Gene:

Joan Kennedy Taylor questions establishment assumptions that women are, by definition, passive victims who require government help. She not only summarizes present law and policies but illustrates various non-governmental methods of countering expressive behavior that is offensive but not truly harassing, including a new feminist approach to company training programs.

Sounds like it’s right up Gene’s ally.
