Reyes Backlash: It’s Because He’s From Texas, Isn’t It?
By Vince Leibowitz on Dec 10, 2006 in Texas Congressional Delegation
At first, the selection of Rep. Silvestre Reyes (D-El Paso) as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee was lauded.
Now, it’s being slammed. From CQ Politics complaining that he can’t tell the difference between a Sunni and a Shiite to his call for more troops and departure from previous anti-war sentiment to various other criticisms, Reyes’ short honeymoon seems to be over before he has even taken the reigns of the committee.
Note to the media: Give the guy a break. He hasn’t even taken office yet.

It’s not because he’s from Texas, it’s because he’s a crook. His appointment proves, as George Wallace once proclaimed, that “there’s not a dime’s worth of difference” between the two parties when it comes to working the system.
CQ Politics does make a good point, but I would ask them to find any congressman who is really knowledgable on the facts. The sad situation is; most politicians aren’t. We need a lot more policy nerds up on Capitol Hill, and this is a problem with both Democrats and Republicans…
I also don’t think he should be calling for more troops. Isn’t that what the Democrat party spent an entire year campaigning against? Pitiful…
Definatly not because he is just a Texan. We attacked Bush in the same way, and I think it is only fair to be as fiery with our own side, even if it is more behind closed doors.
Rep. Reyes; get your shit down. You haven’t taken the chairmanship yet, but you have some reading to do over your Holiday Break!
I have to agree, it’s cause he’s a crook!
I really don’t like waking up in the morining and thumbing thourgh the Washington Post only to find a story on how my hometown’s congressman daughter is being investigated for defrauding the state of Arizona and how my congressman’s “connections” helped out that little scenario in happening.
I tell you this, Congressman Reyes made me vote Libertarian.
