Congressman Nick Lampson is doing just fine following an angioplasty on Friday:
HOUSTON — U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson had angioplasty Friday, his press secretary said. A cardiologist at Christus St. John Hospital in suburban Houston placed a stent in the vessel to keep it open. Lampson, 61, was “conscious, alert and in good spirits throughout the procedure,” according to a statement. He expects to be discharged today and resume his normal schedule after the holidays, his aide said. Lampson was elected in November to the seat previously held by former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay
It’s great news that he’ll be fine. As many of you may recall, my father also received a stent after suffering a mild heart attack back in September. Luckily, from everything I’ve read and heard, Congressman Lampson’s situation wasn’t as severe as my dad’s was.
This also shows us how much medical technology has improved over the years. I’ve been reading a new biography of Lyndon Johnson and when he had a gallbladder operation while he was in the White House, he was hospitalized and recovering much longer than Congressman Lampson will be for his stent operation.
