Media Already Hounding On New Dallas County Judge
By Vince Leibowitz on Dec 28, 2006 in 2006 Texas Elections
Texas’ second-largest county went Democratic, and the MainStream Media has wasted no time attempting to declare him dead in the water.
In a lengthy piece, the DMN pans Jim Foster by being critical of everything from the composition of his transition team to predicting that his failure will spell doom for Dallas County Democrats.
I also found this tidbit quite interesting:
The county judge-elect did assemble a respectable team that includes former city leaders and current business leaders like Mr. Kirk and Tom Dunning of the Dallas Citizens Council.
The list, however, doesn’t include any county government veterans.
Mr. Jillson said a transition team should include people who are familiar with the office who can advise on which staff members to hire and which issues are likely to come up.
“It’s about getting the right people in the door as early as possible and being sure they know what issues they will confront first and how best to do that,” he said.
Commissioner John Wiley Price – the only other Democrat on the court, who’s been in office for more than 20 years – would have been in the best position to advise, Mr. Jillson said.
“The other three are waiting to trip him as he comes through the door,” Mr. Jillson said, referring to the Republicans on the court.
Mr. Price, who was not asked to be on the transition team, said he has met with Mr. Foster only once.
“I think he’ll work well with the court,” he said
Cal Jillson, one of my favorite political analysts, may have missed that John Wiley Price sent out mailouts asking Democrats to vote for Margaret Keliher.
Even so, Price seems to have come around. But still, I don’t think it would have been appropriate to have Price on the transition team. And, had he been, the Republicans would have been whining about having the most liberal and outspoken member of the Court as part of the team.
