Is McCall Endorsing Pitts?

Quorum Report has this:

However, multiple independent sources tell us that speaker candidate Brian McCall has thrown his support behind Jim Pitts and that the two are calling members now bringing together the coalition. Our sources, including members, tell us that there may be a press conference as early as tomorrow.

What we cannot verify yet is whether or not the Democrats have been consulted or signed off on the proposed coalition. We know that those calls have begun.

Personally, I don’t think this is going to happen. For one thing, it hinges on McCall’s supporters all going over to Pitts, which is highly doubtful—especially for the Democrats. If McCall gets out, it is either because this is all as I told you it was a week ago and Pitts is Craddick’s “replacement player” or because neither Pitts nor McCall has enough support independently to oust Craddick. Craddick could also be pressuring people who aren’t supporting him to go to Pitts.
My guess if that McCall drops out, it’s open season for another candidate even at this late hour, or that Craddick will have it wrapped up. On the other hand, it may also put Senfronia Thompson in a position where, if some people abstain from voting and she can get a handful of R’s and Ds to support her other than her original pledges, that she could come within striking distance (but, it’s a long shot).
