Have Times Really Changed For Perry, Dewhurst & Craddick?
By Vince Leibowitz on Jan 15, 2007 in 80th Legislature
The Chron seems to be advancing the idea that Perry, Dewhurst and Craddick will join hands, Kum Ba Yah and engage of that most liberal concept of “let the healing begin” this year:
And while Perry, Dewhurst and House Speaker Tom Craddick all once ruled like the undisputed lords of their respective realms, times have changed. This year, each will come to the legislative negotiating table with political problems that could weaken him in the eyes of the others.
Oh, please. They may have political problems but they also have political agendas. Dewhurst wants to be a U.S. Senator, Perry may have vice presidential ambitions and Craddick…well, who knows about Craddick.
The point is that each of these three will, first and foremost, advance their own agendas before they “let the healing begin.”
So, Perry, Dewhurst and Craddick won’t be found in the opulant bathrooms of the Speaker’s apartment giving each other facials and reading “It Takes A Village” anytime soon.
They’ll clash over the budget, appraisal caps and lord knows what else. Each will throw the red meat necessary out to their own personal bases. Not much will change.
